About the webinar

Join some of our history authors of the new series Cambridge Humanities and Social Sciences for Queensland as they showcase the many ways the history chapters have been designed specifically to meet the needs of Queensland students and teachers.

They will focus on the process of historical inquiry including:
- the underpinning principles of good inquiry question design and how this can be translated to teacher unit planning
- engaging students with a diverse range of primary and secondary sources - critical analysis and evaluation of evidence
- student reflection on the direction and emphasis of learning.

They will also explore:
- the benefits of foregrounding the cognitions which shape the Historical Skills strand of the Australian Curriculum in both teacher planning and student learning,
- the practical implementation of visible thinking routines and other activities in the history classroom
- and valuable assessment support.

About our presenters

Alison Bedford is an experienced Modern History teacher at The Glennie School, Toowoomba. She lectures in History curriculum and pedagogy at the University of Southern Queensland. She is co-founder of the Darling Downs History Network. Alison is interested in exploring pedagogies which foster student independence and metacognitive awareness.

Benjamin Hegerty is a History teacher and Head of Humanities and Social Sciences at Stuartholme School in Brisbane. He is an executive member and past Vice-President of the Queensland History Teachers’ Association (QHTA) and has contributed to the QCAA in various roles, as the Brisbane Central District Review Panel Chair for Ancient History, QCAA Subject Matter Expert for Ancient History, Lead Endorser and Lead Confi rmer. Ben was involved as a contributing author for the Cambridge University Press textbook, Senior Ancient History for Queensland, and completed his Master of History through the University of New England. He has presented multiple workshops and seminars on History pedagogy at state and national education conferences.

Emma Kann is Head of Department Religious Education and an experienced Modern History teacher at The Glennie School, Toowoomba. She is a co-founder of the Darling Downs History Network which aims to support regional and remote History teachers. Emma aims to foster student agency to develop critical and creative thinkers in her History classrooms.
